EGM WEDNESDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2022 – SUMMARY OF PROCEEDINGS
The evening began with a detailed presentation aimed at creating a new club which reflected the dissatisfaction of the Section with Head Office but running in parallel with the VMCC Section and retaining strong ties and sharing in all activities. This was summarily dismissed as unworkable and a more radical proposal emerged to sever all links with the VMCC. Of the 84 attendees 42 appeared initially in favour of such a move. There was much discussion regarding the finances and particularly expenditure from the Festival of Jurby Ltd account. This was not straightforward and neither was it clearly understood. The creation of a new club in total isolation is unlikely to be eligible for funding from the Festival of Jurby Ltd. What gradually emerged though was the overriding unease regarding a potential massive division within the Section which would inevitably lead to two weak entities each operating independantly under their own committees with their own activities. Ultimately, this was generally recognised as a recipe for disaster and many if not all of those calling for radical change changed their position, putting the camaraderie of our successful and inclusive club above all the issues we have with our relationship with Head Office.
What began as an evening of expectation, drama and division ended rather amazingly in a show of overwhelming unity. All in all It was a rather wonderful cathartic experience.
